The Magazine...   by Ian Shires

Back when I was first introduced to the idea of doing small press, the entire community of creators focused all their information and energies on one place. Through snail mail to boot. Getting known and being seen, was something that happened when the latest issue of a magazine arrived. Today obviously, things are vastly different. There are more places for creators to gather, than ever before. There is a place for everyone, different types of communities for different types of mind sets. And that's great.

The SPA has experimented with a few different set ups for getting a magazine that covers Small Press, Self Publishing...over time. I don't know if a printed or even a PDF magazine is even viable anymore. And frankly, that's ok too. We don't have to rely on the way things used to be done, to get something going that will benefit all publishing individuals again. I think however the one main thing that is missing from the network as a whole, is a place for reviews. And as I have been dragging myself back into activity I have been looking around at places that DO do reviews, and notice a common thing: if it aint a slick pro production, it's not there.

So starting TODAY: I am bringing back the SMALL PRESS REVIEW, we are going to turn the Self Publisher! Magazine website into review central, and if we pick up some other aspects of being a magazine along the way, great...but reviews are what its all going to focus on. Is it good. How do you get it. So, later today, I will be posting my first new reviews in a long long time. You can check in at the SP! site and see what develops!
