Sheesh! Another two and a half hours to go and I can get back home. What a night here at work.
I'm working Friday and Saturday nights, both roughly ten hours each...but then I have
Sunday off, which I may just collapse all day. Why can't i win some big lottery and just do
my publishing for a living? lol.

The real question is why can't our publishing support a career? The answer is supply and demand. We can't supply what people want at a cost they are willing to pay regularly. We've all pretty much figured out how to supply our end of things, so the hurdles are the cost, and the audience. We'll delve more into this as we go, after I'm done moving. TODAY is MOVING DAY.

I will be offline until about Tuesday noon. I may be able to sneak some wi-fi time somewhere, but most of my time will be setting up at the new house.

Beautiful weather here today. Perfect day for laying on the sofa with a raised broken foot and to stare out the window. Juuuussst perfect.

In speaking with my employer they will have some light 'sit down' duties for me at their office while my foot is healing so I shouldn't see too big of a hit as far as income goes. They're got data entry stuff I can do for a few hours a day, or for full days if I can physically sit for longer hours without the foot pain interfering.

It's all good...

Good luck with that, Rog. In my department, we were told that when you come back to work after surgery or an extended health leave there is no such thing as light duty!

lol not sure about Canada, but down here they use light duty to lessen lost time accident reporting. the whole time you aren't at work after you get hurt counts against them as lost time. so if they get you back in the office they can stop that counter. kinda stupid if you ask me. they should be more worried about your health than some dumb reporting number.

Well, that "dumb reporting number", and all the others on those forms we have to file, affects the employer's rates for the next 3 years. So yes, health status is paramount but if you can lessen the number of days missed by subbing in some light duty days, it's for the benefit of everyone (esp. considering worker's comp wage replacement is not done at 100%, it's done at an average based on the last 91 days worked and, IIRC, only starts after 7 days missed and only pays on those first 7 days if your out for a month).

That being said, we had to institute a no-light-duty status here, as well, because the most common WC injuries for a while were back injuries. Our press and bindery operators have to be able to move paper, bend, twist, etc. which are all implausible under light duty.

Weirdest WC claim I've had to file in the last 14 years: a spider bite. An employee was out at the picnic tables on his break and got a spider bite that took several doctor's visits to clear up.
