PROOFING GUIDELINES

Proofing, in our system, is a simple process for a publisher. When you send in your digital files, we assemble them in our templates. A PDF is produced, and we will send you copies of the PDFs for preliminary checking ASAP. We will fix as much as we can right then and there in that part of it, as it costs us nothing but time to make a fix and re-do the PDF at this stage. If there are any time-consuming file changes needed, it will be up to the publisher to perform them, we will try to teach you info if you do not know it. If your fixing the files is not possible, and we have to do it, we will give you an estimate of the cost of having us do it. We don't want to soak anyone, but our time is worth $$ as much as yours is. We have set up a system that makes it possible to cut large parts of the pre-production costs of making a comic out of the process here, by making sure we have printable files before we go to the printer.

Once we're happy with the PDF, 99% of the time, that will print into a perfectly good book. We generally do not do or encourage doing a physical proof, unless the order is over 1,000 copies. If a physical proof is indeed deemed necessary, we will quote the cost of it, and run it. Any changes needed made after seeing a physical proof MAY have costs involved in fixing. We will quote those on an individual basis, and take care of them. As we use multiple printers, and take the order to the one best suited for the order, it is impossible to guestimate preset costs here. Follow the advice in the File Prep Checklist page, and everything should run smoothly. You will of course be asked to approve any such charged actions, we would never charge for something you have no idea about.

Just remember: Approving a proof means that you are happy with how your files will print, and so does waiving the proof. Once approved or waived, Dimestore cannot be held responsible for any problems in the files that cause the book to not print to your standards. Problems that are the printers fault, the printer will be help responsible to fix. Problems that are in the files the printer can't do anything about, are your responsibility.
