CHECKLIST FOR ORDERING

Standard Procedures

Turnaround time is a GOAL of 3 weeks. We are hoping to run orders even faster, but we want to be realistic and make sure that things are done right. Turn around time can be effected by conventions and other things, so if you need a book to be somewhere on a specific date, let us know the second you do so we can confirm if that is possible. We will post on the Printing Forum convention-crunch cutoff dates when we have the need to. 3 weeks is a GOAL time, and your order might run faster or take longer depending on your files, the printer we use, or other factors. Dimestore will work to make sure your files are completely ready to print before turning them in to the printer.

A Rush Charge of up to $50 may be applicable on any order that NEEDS to be completed faster than the 3 week turnaround time, OVER AND ABOVE THE PRINTER'S RUSH FEES, and rush shipping. Please ask and arrange this before sending in an order. We will only accept rush orders when both Dimestore and the Printer agree that we can get the job done by the date needed. This is a charge just for our taking on the order. We highly dislike rush jobs. We will make judgment calls on all rush jobs.

Promoting where you're Printed We require that in your printing information, or anywhere you deem inside your book, that you place one of the logos we have available AND have a statement that your book was "Printed through the Self Publisher Association. www.dimestoreproductions.com" This is the only requirement to get our rates, you do not have to give us whole pages of your book to advertise our services.

Listing for distribution: We require books that we print to be listed in our online system...but we do not require that you sell them through us. That is your choice. We will keep a mandatory (we will arrange with you if we think more are needed, or if you want to send us more) 1 copy of your print run for listing purposes. How it is handled for Distro purposes is completely up to you and the options of the Distro you wish to use. We will treat each publisher and each title as an individual basis, and develop long-term relationships with publishers that way. But the book will be listed. If presale options are used, Dimestore will increase print runs on strong presale books to meet needs, pay for additional copies out of sales, and pay forward profits. We will also work with you to keep books in print for the long haul, if you wish.

Our Terms of payment are: Payment in Full at time of ordering. Checks, Money Orders or PayPal for first time orderers, and until we can develop working relationships with publishers for other options. Personal or business checks will delay your order for the time it takes a check to clear in a bank, around 3-5 days. IF A PERSONAL CHECK IS Returned for any reason, the publisher is responsible for all bank and printer fees, plus $20 for Dimestore's efforts to fix the problem and/or cancel the order.

As for PayPal. There is an additional charge of 2.9% + 35 cents on orders processed through PayPal to cover the PayPal charges. It usually comes out to less than the cost of a money order...our Paypal address to send to is Ian@dimestoreproductions.com

Orders are to be sent to this address: Dimestore Productions/ P.O. Box 214, Madison, OH 44057 If you need a Street Address for UPS/Fed Ex delivery, please e-mail Printing@dimestoreproductions.com for the address.

All shipping instructions must be done in writing. Carriers and pricing are subject to change without notice. Shipments must be paid in advance. We have a system of estimation of shipping charges based on book size and print run, and you can see HERE for calculating that estimation yourself. Shipping instructions are required in writing at time of ordering. Ship instructions should include full physical street addresses and clear quantities to be sent. We cannot ship to a PO Box address from the printers. Please check your receiver's requirements pertaining to purchase order numbers and packing slips, when we are to be shipping to a distributor, or a hotel at a convention, etc.

Dimestore works in a completely PC (not MAC) digital environment. This does not mean that we can't turn in Mac-created files, usually it's just a matter of your saving the files in PC format before you send. We will work with Mac-based publishers as best we can. Digital files can be delivered to our PO Box on CD, or over the internet via a number of means, we like www.yousendit.com. Discuss with us the options available at the time you need to send in your files. We do not return CDs, so make sure to keep a copy of your files for yourself. Dimestore will keep the final printed files on file should you need reprints at a later date.

All prices are accurate at the time of publication, based on specifications outlined. All prices and offers are subject to change without notice. Prices herein are based on jobs arriving in proper, usable formats. If there are defects in the final printing of your book when received, Dimestore will work with the publisher to reach a suitable settlement with the printer based on the circumstances. Dimestore is not liable to repay any monies directly to the publisher, we serve as your agent and will work to make things right as sure as if the book was our own baby.

PRODUCTION CHECK LIST

LABEL YOUR MATERIALS. Label media and other materials with your company name, job title, and phone number.

NAME FILES RIGHT. Make sure that page order is correct and NOTED and that digital files reflect the page numbers. Number things: Front Cover, Inside Front Cover, Page 1 - Page XX, Inside Back Cover, and Back Cover. ASK about how to set up 2-page spreads or wrap-around covers. Failure to send some sort of pagination guide that shows exactly the pages in order and numbered may result in delays of your order.

Preferred Procedure: SEND IMAGES AS (IBM) TIFF FILES. NO COMPRESSION of any type, please. We prefer flattened final Tiff images, no layers. Make sure all colors/images are specified as CMYK (not as spot or RGB). For black & white printing, make files as GRAYSCALE. You will be asked to perform any time consuming tasks needed here. When files are deemed ready to send to the printer, that is when the order turn around time kicks in. We can work with people who insist on assembling pages in their own Page set-up programs, but our preferred format guarantees there will be no additional set up or imaging needed.

PAGE SIZE. Digest size is 5.5" wide by 8.5" tall. Standard comic size is 6.625" x 10.25"; magazine size is 8.5" x 11". For pages that bleed, an additional .125" should be added to all sides. Run images right up to the edges, not over or under, for the canvass size. Ideal image size for a non-bleed, comic book page is 6" x 9". Words you want to be able to be read should never be placed near the trim edge, keep them at least .25" away from the edge. Straight lines that run parallel to the trim edge should NEVER be placed within .25", as there is an industry standard for shift in printing, that can be anywhere in the .125" either side of the trim edge, and, cause WEDGES on edges. That is not a printing default, it is inside the accepted tolerance of operating a printing press. If you have questions about making your pages we highly recommend using our forum to learn more and ask questions long before you start drawing your book.

KEEP A BACK-UP COPY. Make a back-up copy for emergencies...you never know! We do not guarantee that previous files will be maintained or accessible on our system. Mistakes happen. And it wouldn't be the first time files sent in the mail got lost. Back up everything!

PROOFS. Please be aware that items which appear on your screen or laser/inkjet print may appear differently when imaged to final form. Read our Proofing page carefully. Dimestore cannot be held responsible for file problems after approving a PDF proof for printing, or a printed proof, or the waiving of proofing.
